Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15

The MiG-15 was the first Soviet production aircraft to feature a swept wing design, pressurized cockpit, and ejection seat. Production of the MiG-15 was authorised in March 1948 and by the end of the year a substantial number had entered service.

In the late 1940s Britain was trailing far behind in supersonic aircraft design. To try to retrieve matters the Ministry of Supply issued a specification for a supersonic research aircraft, and Fairey set about meeting this with a delta-winged aircraft designed for investigation into flight and control at transonic and supersonic speeds.

Designed to a 1947 specification for a medium-range airliner for the British Overseas Airways Corporation, the Britannia prototype made its first flight on 16 August 1952. A long-range version, the Series 300 as pictured, was developed for trans-Atlantic service and entered service on the London-New York route on 19 December 1957.
