Designed as a replacement for the Hurricane and Spitfire, the Typhoon was the first RAF fighter capable of exceeding 400mph when it entered service in 1941. This speed allowed Typhoons to successfully combat the newer, more capable aircraft coming into German service at the same time, such as the Fw-190, easily matching them at low levels.

Known as the ‘Twin Pin’, the Twin Pioneer was a follow-up to the same company’s single-engined short take-off and landing (STOL) transport, the Pioneer, and like the latter required an area only 30m (99ft) by 275m (902ft) in which to operate. The Twin Pioneer was initially designed as a 16-passenger civil transport aircraft and first flew in June 1955. Following the success of the Pioneer, the RAF ordered 39 of the new type, the first examples entering service in October 1958 with No.78 Squadron in Aden, air-lifting troops and supplies in the Protectorate.

Westland Wessex HC.4 XV732

From nearly 30 years, two specially modified Westland Wessex helicopters transported members of the Royal Family and other dignitaries on public duties across the UK and Europe. Designated HCC4, they were identical to the Wessex HC Mk.2 in military use, except for the special VIP interior furnishings, an external folding step below cabin door, and additional navigation aides including a Decca rolling map.
