Pilots flying log book of Captain George Edward Henry McElroy, 1918
George McElroy was a famous First World War fighter ace, he was awarded the Military Cross and two bars and the Distinguished Flying Cross and bar.
Born in Ireland. McElroy served with the Royal Engineers as a despatch rider, he was identified for a commission and served with the Royal Irish Regiment. McElroy began pilot training in 1917 and was posted to France to begin operations with No.40 Squadron is the September of that year. He was credited with 47 aerial victories before he was killed on 31 July 1918. The log book covers the period 19 June -31 July 1918 and records McElroy's many aerial combats.
