Pilot's flying log book of Squadron Leader Bernard Curtis Rice MC, 1915-1918
Largely blank log book which only records the number of hours flown on different aircraft types and the numbers of hours flown in different units with which Rice served.
Bernard Rice enlisted into the army four days after the outbreak of war, where he joined the Army Service Corps and served in France as a despatch rider. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps where he served as an observer before retraining as pilot. He returned to the Western Front and joined No.8 Squadron flying artillery spotting and tactical reconnaissance sorties. Curtis returned to the UK in the autumn of 1917 and spent the remainder of the war as an instructor. He was tragically killed in a car crash in August 1933.
