Viking Mk.Ib
Aircraft recognition poster of a Vickers Viking. Air Diagram number AD4672, issue 1, sheet 1, November 1950.
Aircraft recognition charts were an essential training tool in learning to recognise aircraft. They depicted silhouettes of both allied and enemy aircraft and were used to help military personnel and members of the Royal Observer Corps to quickly identify whether an aeroplane was friendly or hostile. The Vickers Viking was a short to medium range civil airliner. The RAF purchased four for the King's Flight, a military version of the Viking was later developed which was known as the Vickers Valetta.
