Pilot's flying log book of Lieutenant Lionel Arthur West, 17 December 1917-7 September 1921
Lionel West from Handsworth, Birmingham joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1917. After completing his flying training he was posted to No.2 Aeroplane Supply Depot in August 1918.
Here he flew as a ferry pilot, testing repaired or newly assembled aircraft and delivering them to front line squadrons. RAF supply depots were an integral part of the air force's war effort which required a constant supply of aircraft, engines, fuel, oil, bombs and ammunition. In January 1919 he was posted to No.110 Squadron in Cologne, part of the British occupation forces following the Armistice of November 1918.
