Land Rover Series I VIP Platform
Two-door, right hand drive short wheelbase vehicle, with rear steps leading up to an open platform with Perspex side panels. Painted overall blue-grey.
The Land Rover has proved a popular and versatile vehicle with British armed forces. Some have been modified with an open platform behind the cab to allow dignitaries to be visible during parades and reviews. This Land Rover was platform modified in 1955 and subsequently issued on a series of short-term loans to various RAF units for review purposes. In June 1965, HRH Princess Margaret used it to present No. 74 Squadron with its first standard, at RAF Leuchars.
